In Nov 2019, I moved into my first big girl apartment. My first space that, was 100% MINE, and I KNEW I wanted an orange, velvet couch. I didn't think it would be easy to find exactly, but I was not expecting it to be so difficult!
I was overloaded with options and had no idea where to start. All the couches I LOVED were THOUSANDS of dollars, way too big, way too small, something was wrong with them.
Then in 2020, I got pregnant, we moved, life changed, so my dreams of a bright orange velvet couch seemed a bit more distant. I was warned against getting a new couch because, as we know, newborns are full of nasty bodily fluids, and the baby would ruin it.
But our current couch wasn't cutting it. It was wayyyy too soft and hard to get up from and just no longer comfortable. So I began my search again, and thanks to an Instagram AD, I discovered Albany Park.
Albany Park claimed easy to assemble and reasonable prices for their pieces. They have three styles of sofas that have a range of fabrics and colors. I spent a lot, and I do mean A LOT of time looking. Buying furniture online makes me REALLY nervous because how can I know how it sits! Is it firm? Soft? There's no way to tell. But, the style of sofa in the color and fabric I wanted only seems to exist online.
I decided on an Albany Park couch for a few reasons.
They had orange.
They had velvet.
It was under $2000 (and you could use affirm to break it into payments)
The reviews said it was easy to clean.
That was all I needed to hear, and I was sold.
The even better news? I shopped during Juneteenth weekend, so I got a sale, PLUS the ottoman and couch were already a bit marked down. So in full disclosure, I paid UNDER $1200 for my entire purchase.
What did I get? Oh honey, let's talk about it.
I got the Albany Sofa in Rust Velvet with wood legs PLUS the Albany Ottoman. This sofa does seem to be the most affordable one they have. It also is on the smaller side but with three distinct seats, which was vital for me.
SHIPPING + ARRIVAL
(Hint, it arrived EARLY)
My confirmation email said the couch would ship on Aug 18th and the ottoman on the 11th.
The couch and ottoman did ship separately, with the ottoman arriving first, but both arrived before their estimated SHIPPING date.
The ottoman arrived on the 6th and the sofa on the 15th.
The only issue I've had with this entire purchase so far was that the underside of the ottoman was ripped when I opened the box. It doesn't impact usage or how it looks; I just know it's there.
Honestly, it seems like that happened due to the mishandling of the box. Our delivery people haven't been the nicest with our packages.
Our couch had zero issues when it arrived, except they left it at the edge of the driveway in the rain (not the company's fault).
ASSEMBLY AND USAGE
The couch snaps together. Like, it slides and snaps together. The website says it only takes one person to put it together, but I did have my boyfriend help me.
Unboxing everything and putting all the trash to the side took longer than putting the couch together.
That made me VERY nervous because my boyfriend isn't small, and I was concerned about the sturdiness a sofa snapped together, but it's held up fine so far!
Now, here's where I feel like I'm getting my money's worth fr fr.
This couch is so easy to clean. I am a messy eater. I have an infant with acid reflux. We KEEP paper towels on deck in this house because stuff is everywhere. Not even a DAY after using the couch, I spilled food on it. Then over 3/4 days, the following items ended up on my sofa:
-Chicken Grease
-Breast milk
-A chili cheese dog (chili side DOWN)
anddddddddd
-BABY POOP
Each time I wiped the couch down with a wet paper towel (and some Lysol), and it was fine. Looked brand new, with no stains, nothing. But you want to know a secret? My final selling point on the couch...and why even if it did stain, I'd only be mildly panicked? *Whispers* The cushions...are...reversible.
So I plan to leave all the cushions facing one way until my kid goes to college (kidding, kinda...), and then once they're stained (if that ever happens), just flip them to the fresh side! Boom! Brand new sofa again!
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The sofa is pretty firm. If you're looking for super soft, I would guess the Kova is for you (I never sat in it, so I don't know).
But I love it. I don't sink into it, but it's not like sitting on something hard. There's enough space for my boyfriend to lay down, but not a ton of room for cuddling; it's pretty narrow.
The Albany Sofa has my stamp of approval! If you're looking for one of your own, shop using my link!
