CREATING THE PERFECT INSTAGRAM BIO FOR BUSINESSES.

So, I’ve been on the hunt for a juice place, good juice, cute bottles, (no ginger cause I’m allergic). Then I stumbled upon an Instagram page for a juice place and was instantly frustrated.

Their initial social strategy worked perfectly, they were using hashtags and had a super interesting photo that caught my eye. BUT I clicked over to the profile and their bio didn’t link to a website, didn’t say what city they were located in, and didn’t offer ANY info on how to purchase. After googling them I learned they weren’t located in my city and moved on. A bit disappointed, but more so frustrated their bio didn’t just let me know initially I couldn’t shop with them.

Getting people to your Instagram doesn’t matter if they don’t learn anything from it. Your bio is the MOST important part of your Instagram page.

So, let's say we're a plant store called PlantersUSA and our bio currently reads

"PLANTERS USA IS A FIRST-RATE GARDEN CENTER PROVIDING INDOOR AND OUTDOOR PLANTS FOR NATURE LOVERS."

That's a decent bio, it says who we are, it says what we do.

But it's missing A LOT of info.

Here’s how I would adjust this bio to best showcase who we are, what we do and how to shop with us!

  1. Where are you??

If you travel, list your base city and mention that you travel! If your clients can't figure out where you are located they won't bother to look into your business any further! You run the risk of them being frustrated or confused when trying to shop/order/book with you!

"Planters USA is a first-rate, New Orleans Garden Center providing indoor and outdoor plants for nature lovers."

2. Operating hours.

What time do you open? What time do you close? List that info on your social profiles! Often operating hours are difficult to find on websites, make it easy for your customers, and list it in your bio.

"Planters USA is a first-rate, New Orleans Garden Center providing indoor and outdoor plants for nature lovers. Visit us between 10 am- 4 pm"

If they don’t know your hours, they don’t know when to shop. If they don’t know when to shop, they’re not visiting your store front. Simple as that.

3. WEBSITE LINK.

Make it easy to navigate to your website. This can be a simple website link, a linktree, whatever floats your boat. But your website needs to be easily discoverable on ALL social channels.

No major change to the bio is needed for this. Luckily most social sites have a special place to place a link ( because they realize how important they are )!

4. What’s new??

Share any info that will impact the customer experience. If there is a change in story policy or hours put it in your bio. Nothing is more frustrating than a place listing their hours in the bio, you show up and find out they are not operating within those hours.

"PlantersUSA is a New Orleans Garden Center providing plants for nature lovers. Visit us between 10 am- 4 pm. Please #MaskUP for all shoppers' safety!"

You'll notice this bio changed a little bit more than the others. Instagram bios can only be 150 characters so as you add in more info you may have to adjust and remove information that isn't as important.

You want your bio to have as much info as possible for any NEW customer. Assume they'll need to know all the basics and included those!

If you INSIST upon having a super quirky and cute bio, that’s fine too! Create a FAQ/INFO highlight on Instagram that has ALL of this info! That way the information is still easily found and accessed.
